About Me

I am a C++ programmer who loves the Macintosh (and thinks everyone should love it too). I love what I do, and so when I am not at work doing it, and am at home writing about it for macCompanion.

My most profound working experience was shortly after 9/11. The company I was working for at the time was contracted to write the forensic DNA software used to identify the victims of the World Trade Center attacks. I was able to help bring closure to the families who had lost loved ones. I am currently working at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY.

I am a first-time father of a wonderful little girl named Nora who has stolen my heart away. (Thankfully, my wife Mary stops me from buying her the world.)

I am also a comic book geek (particularly Superman), tech book enthusiast, Civil War student and music lover.

Why Macs?

I started using a Mac at Grad School at the University of Michigan and have preferred them ever since. although I have had to endure working on a PC from time to time, the Mac is truly my home.

Why write for macCompanion?

In August of 2005, macCompanion Publisher Robert Pritchett, found a paper I had published at MacHack 20: "Cross-Platform Strategies from a Macintosh Perspective" and asked if he could reprint it. It seemed a bit long for reading in its current format, so I suggested cutting it up into a series of articles. And so was born my column According to Hoyle, and I write on general topics regarding Macintosh software development.
