Real Occupation: Medically Retired Aircraft Mechanic, full-time father to 3 great kids and husband to one great wife.
About Me
My first PC was one of the first IBM PC's with 4 MHz processor and 16 k of memory back in 1981. I played Zork until my fingers bled! After a brief stint in the Air Force, I came back Utah to work for Mrs. Fields Cookies at their corporate headquarters in Park City. My title was Management Information Systems Analyst, basically coding in dBase III using various information massaged from the AS400. Not content with a desk job, I went back to school and started working as an Aircraft Line Mechanic for Delta Air Lines in Dallas, TX. After moving to Atlanta, GA with Delta, I opened up a small business computer consulting business. Didn't last very long as I was then transferred to SLC, UT.
After 13 years as an aircraft mechanic with Delta, I took a voluntary severance package after things started going downhill after 9/11. I packed up the wife and 3 kids, and moved to Vermont to work on Land Rovers, of all things! The grass is always greener, however, and shortly thereafter went back to working on airplanes at the local airport.
In Oct. 2003, somehow, somewhere I contracted Necrotizing Fasciitis. (Also known as Flesh Eating Bacteria.) After a very long recovery, I found out my central nervous system was somehow damaged and unable to work. Now, I love to admin the Mac-Headz forum, listen to every podcast in the Mac community, and try to learn everything I can about these new Macs.
Why Macs?
26 years of always building my own PC's, and constantly tweaking and fixing and looking for various hardware and software solutions, it was time for a new computer. I received an iPod for a gift, and in true halo fashion, started seriously looking into a Mac. It didn't take long to figure out it was exactly what I wanted. I decided that I was getting old enough to just want something to work, without constantly working on it. A Mac Mini with a Dell 24" was just the ticket, and I've never been happier!
Why write for macCompanion?
I both write and work at macCompanion because I want to make a difference. I want to prove it can be done, and I am willing to extend the effort and time to make macCompanion a name that everyone associates with Apple Computers. |
